📓 How to Record Nirvana
I love this letter from Steve Albini to Nirvana about how he’d record their album if they chose him (that album became In Utero) for two reasons:
- His approach to recording and producing
- His absolute clarity on #1
So maybe it’s really one reason.
Anyway, here’s a taste:
#3: I do not have a fixed gospel of stock sounds and recording techniques that I apply blindly to every band in every situation. You are a different band from any other band and deserve at least the respect of having your own tastes and concerns addressed.
What if you replace the music-specific references with something more relevant to your thing? Does it hold?
